Barricaded Subject #25-00245

On January 18, 2025, at approximately 21:09 hrs, officers from the Westchester Police Department were dispatched to the 2200 block of Buckingham Avenue in response to an unknown disturbance.

Upon arrival, officers determined that the situation involved domestic violence, which had escalated into gunfire. The suspect, who had fired shots, retreated into a nearby residence as officers approached. The suspect, later identified as Tyrone Coakley, 36, had barricaded himself inside the home with his three young children. Officers from Westchester Police Department, along with personnel from neighboring law enforcement agencies, quickly established a perimeter around the residence and began negotiating with the suspect.

After an hour-long standoff, Coakley released the children from the home and surrendered to police without further incident. He was taken into custody on charges of domestic violence and weapons offenses. The situation caused temporary traffic disruptions due to the police presence; however, all roadways have since been reopened, and there is no ongoing threat to the community.

The Westchester Police Department encourages anyone with information or video footage related to the incident to contact the department by email or calling (708) 345-0060.
